Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year

2022 is here and with it, new hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Enter Very Peri, Pantone’s Color of the Year. We love lively colors here at Anthony’s and have long had a place in our hearts for periwinkle. It is a lovely bluish color with undertones of reddish violet, creating a gorgeous hue that is equal parts calming and vivacious. At Anthony’s, we have carried periwinkle-colored clothing for years, and we think it’s high time that this purplish-blue gets its due!

Each calendar year, the Color of the Year is decided upon by the Pantone Color Institute, a consortium of global color experts who see the emerging color trends not just as visual design fads but also as having a more profound purpose in expressing the moment’s universal psychology. In this way, the Color of the Year represents our shared story- where we are coming from, where we are going, and the challenges faced along the way. Of course, the Pantone Color Institute primarily exists to consult industries about practical color usage. Still, the Color of the Year offers hope and a wider perspective on our current collective situation.

This year’s Pantone Color of the Year is extra special- it is the first time since the year 2000 when Pantone began to name a yearly color, that the color institute has created a new color for the occasion. In past years, it was always an existing Pantone hue that was heralded as the annual color, but for 2022, it was decided that an entirely new shade would represent these “unprecedented” times.

Still in the midst of a global pandemic and at the brink of new innovations in digital technology, 2022 is already off to an interesting start.
