Spring Dresses For Women Over 50

Posted on 15 April 2022

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

No, not the winter holidays--dress season!

Even those of us who aren’t habitual dress wearers start eyeing the women’s apparel racks, admiring the swirl of floral prints, the stamp of a nautical anchor, the feminine flair designed for the warmest of months.

While I tend to wear a uniform of classic pants and a fun, patterned top or tee, even I cannot resist the chic styling and classic ease of the dress. These gorgeous garments have a tendency to convert me at least for a few months a year!

While dresses can truly be in style all year round when accessorized for fall or winter with boots, but when spring and summer roll around, dresses almost start to feel like a necessity!

With upcoming spring weddings, luncheons, and holidays, we figured it was high time to take a look around the Anthony's closet for the best dresses for all your upcoming events. We specialize in fashions for women over 50, and our dresses are no different. Designed to fit and flatter from formal cocktail dress styles to floaty sundresses, there is something for everyone. We picked several of our favorites from the hundreds of dresses we carry made for every body type and guaranteed to hide every pesky problem area.

We all need a little dress for everyday--mostly for those days when we proclaim that despite having a closet full of clothes, we simply have nothing to wear! This comfortable, marine-inspired dress is just the ticket, epitomizing throw-on-and-go chic.

I love the dresses at Anthony’s, however, being a petite 5’ tall, the dresses are too big and too long. I would shop Anthony’s exclusively if petite sized dresses were available.

Agree with above comments…sleeves & length at knee.

Fell in LOVE with Anthony’s Jupiter location this past winter. Picked up MANY wonderful pieces. I am 5’ and a bit short waisted so I only wear shift/A-line styles and was delighted with the Anthony’s brand. So pleased the length was perfect for me right off the rack! I had not bought a dress in many years, only slacks, capris, jeans, palazzos, etc., bought 5 dresses and I’ll be back next year. Thank you!!!

Wish you would carry more dresses with elbow sleeves and at least to just below the knee and in petite sizes.

  • Cindy Luedee: April 27, 2022

I agree with the other women, the dresses should go to the knee 36” are too short,
Also would like some dresses with short sleeves.

  • Pat: April 27, 2022

I second and third the previous comments about length. I don’t want a maxi or mid calf. I love the shift or sheath silhouette with just a little longer length, to the knee. Further complicated that I am tall (over 5’8”). But at my age I need a dress that goes to the knee!!!

In days gone by I looked like your models, but that time has looong past…so now I look for dresses/tops that do not mold to one’s body or stretchy fabric, which accentuates the negative. Living in Florida, I find nothing more comfortable and cooler than a light cotton material. Short sleeves rather than long or ¾ is perfect! Still like above the knee length and free flowing is a must!!!

  • Barbara Hauptfuhrer: April 27, 2022

I agree with the previous comments. I often buy hem facing to lengthen dresses. If not longer dresses, ps leave a lot more hem to lengthen.

  • Andrea M: April 27, 2022

Agree. Love your dresses but few mature women want to wear a SHORT dress.

  • Janice Davidson: April 27, 2022

These dresses are so cute, but they are way too short!

  • Paula Sette: April 27, 2022

I am a big fan on Anthony’s clothing – great colors, designs and quality. I agree with those who said women want a longer than above the knee length – at we age there is nothing attractive about our knees!

  • kathy Tracy: June 13, 2019

LOVE LOVE LOVE your dresses I have way to many but need to be longer than 35 inches …..older women would like just above the knee …….these are way to short to wear without leggings…..

  • Lee: June 13, 2019

I love quite a few of the dress styles butI would prefer that they arrive to the knee or just barely above. All of these shown styles are too short for me now that I have reached 60.

A nice variety of shrugs would also be helpful to cover up our upper arm with all those beautiful sleeveless tops and dresses.

  • Bonita Miller: April 19, 2019

Most women my age and older do not like dresses above the knee or sleeveless or clothing that has horizontal lines that makes us look larger. Would like more simple stylish print and or floridian with virtical strips. Please and thank you

Thank you Andrea for reaching out. We will share this with the buying team! We do have several options on the website that are 3/4, Long and Short sleeves. You can see them here: https://www.anthonysfla.com/collections/dresses.

  • Andrea Mann: April 15, 2019

A lot of women over 50 do not have the toned arms and prefer to wear dresses with sleeves. Also dresses that are knee length. I wish you would offer more of those types of dresses.
