3 ways to get a smoldering look this summer

Do you remember the glamorous 1940s movie star Veronica Lake?

With her seductive looks and wavy blonde hair, she was often called "smoldering."

Here in sizzling Florida, "smoldering" takes on new meaning.

We can't escape being hot when it's 98 degrees outside, but we can still look seductively smoldering...with a few tips from classic beauties like Veronica Lake.

Give them the cold shoulder: "Smolder" rhymes with "shoulder"...and we all know, the shoulder is the sexiest part of a woman's arm.

Stars from the golden age of Hollywood were often photographed in off-the-shoulder gowns -- it's a smoldering look that never gets old.

I make that look work for me by picking cold-shoulder styles at Anthony's, the women's fashion store. Lately, I've been loving my Jess and Jane cold-shoulder tops, which feature cutouts at the shoulders.

I also love my white Maxi Dress from Vasna. The bodice of the dress features elastic smocking, so it's flattering to the upper body, and the skirt drifts out from the waist. Simple and smoldering.

Play peekaboo: Veronica Lake was dubbed "The Peek-a-boo Blonde" because of her long, wavy blonde tresses that partially covered one eye.

You can play peekaboo with your fashion by trying the Illusion T-shirt by Artex, available at Anthony's. This stretch T-shirt is comfortable and classic – but a mesh insert at the bodice, sleeve and hem give it a little peekaboo action.

Cool down like a pinup: Veronica Lake's glamorous pinup posters were a favorite of World War II soldiers, who also had a thing for Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth.

You'll feel like a femme fatale in Anthony's swimwear. I'm no bikini model, but I always feel good about myself in a gorgeous swimdress.

The Paisley Swirl Swim Dress by Maxine of Hollywood is amazingly flattering. That brand is known for creating feminine styles that enhance a woman's curves. (And this particularly suit has a Tummy Toner lining to gently slim the waist.)

Create your own smoldering look in flattering styles from Florida's women's fashion leader, Anthony's.

Val's tip of the week: Stay in Naples...and get a boat with your room

Summer is the time to get great resort deals in Florida. My hubby Marv and I love to go on Florida adventures in the summer, and my tote bag is always packed with my weekend styles from Anthony's. Here's a cool deal: At the Naples Bay Resort & Marina, guests can sail into savings with a limited time offer that pairs a guest room and a full-day boat rental. Let your captain drive that boat, show off your sunkissed shoulders, and you can be breezy and beautiful.
