Fall fashion for when you live in Florida
Posted on 15 September 2015
It's "September Issue" time! It's that time when fall fashions fill the stores and the gigantic September issues of our favorite fall fashion magazines arrive in the mail.
I love those magazines. I can spend hours staring at the leather boots and jackets. Oh, how chic is that shearling? How luscious is that lambskin? How tempting are those opaque tights?
Then I walk outside into the 100-degree heat and snap out of it. I live in Florida! What kind of crazy woman wears a leather coat in December when it's maybe 65 degrees?
Anthony's women's clothing store has the answer. Anthony's knows how to make Florida fashion work – even in the fall.
Here are three great ideas to help you transition your Florida fashion into a fabulous Florida fall:
Delight in winter white: Soft vanilla is one of the most flattering hues on any skin tone – and one of the hottest colors for fall. Ivory is perfect for our Florida falls because it mixes back to taupe, tan and cognac – slightly richer shades that work in all seasons, no matter the temperature. One of my favorite new pieces for fall is an ivory peasant blouse by RXB, from Anthony's women's fashion store, of course. With tone-on-tone embroidery and a flowing shape, this top looks great on its own or under a vest.
Look for faux leather trims: Faux leather is so good these days, you can't even tell it's faux – unless you touch it and see how light and practical it is. If you lust for lambskin but know it's totally impractical for a Florida fall, try faux leather, made of polyester blends. Anthony's has some great tops from Zac and Rachel with a faux leather detail at the waist. These black and white A-line tunics look like they should cost $200, but they're under $40!
Try texture, texture, texture: Forget a chunky wool sweater...and go for a delightful crochet vest. Fall wardrobes are about texture, and Florida fall wardrobes need texture, too – in a lighter weight. My Joseph A. crochet vest is the perfect layering piece to wear over my A-line tunics and leggings. It's long enough to cover my thighs, and light as air.

Val's vacay tip of the week: If you want to feel fall, go north...to North Florida. The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, known as the "grand dame" of North Florida resorts since 1928, has a fresh new look, the result of a multi-million dollar renovation. The resort sits on 300 acres just south of Jacksonville Beach. You could stop at Anthony's, the experts in Florida fashion, at the Vero Beach store on your way up the coast.
