When October comes around, the color pink is extra popular. That's because it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month! This is very near and dear to our hearts at Anthony's Ladies Apparel, and we want to encourage our customers to be aware and be preventative. For years, our stores have partnered with the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. We will be collecting donations at our stores for the entirety of October. As an awareness campaign, this has been incredibly successful. So, don't forget to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Why to Support Breast Cancer Awareness
Did you know that besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women? Medical researchers as well as members of the Susan G. Komen Foundation have found that about one in eight women in the United States develop breast cancer over the course of their lifetimes.
How to Practice Breast Cancer Prevention
Doctors remind us that early detection of breast cancer is the most effective way to beat the disease. That is why it is essential for women to be screened regularly for any signs or symptoms of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society recommends the following (for women at average risk):
Ages 40-44: Can choose to start screening with a mammogram every year.
Ages 45-54: Should get a mammogram every year.
Ages 55+: Can switch to getting a mammogram every other year or can choose to continue with a mammogram every year.
