Did you happen to see the Oscars? I watch every year just to see what the actresses are wearing, especially my favorite, Meryl Streep. Meryl always looks chic and like herself, which is the key to having great style. Do you look great and also look like your best YOU?
Meryl wore a long black skirt with draped ivory blouse and a black jacket. This is signature Streep, and I copy that look often, especially when I'm wearing my Kristin Crenshaw slim black pants and my flowing black-and-white printed tunic by Pretty Woman. I got those separates at Anthony's, my favorite women's fashion store.
So, that's one trend to steal from the Oscars: Black and white, the classic colors of the night! Reese Witherspoon, Patricia Arquette and Julianne Moore also wore black and white.
Here's another Oscar trend: Cut-outs! Lupita Nyong'o wore a dress made of 6,000 white pearls with a cutout detail right at the bodice. That's a little extreme for most of us, but how about translating that trend with eyelet trim on the sleeve of your tshirt? Anthony's Resort Wear collection has an adorable tee with eyelet cut-outs on the sleeve. Anthony's also has some great tops with peekaboo cutouts on the shoulder.
And how about some color? Rosamund Pike's red gown made her look like a red rose. I have a red-and-black dress from Pretty Woman that I got at Anthony's, and it makes me feel like a movie star whenever I wear it. It has a fitted bodice with a flared skirt that makes me feel like a red-carpet star.
When I get a new outfit from Anthony's, I've got the confidence of Meryl Streep!
LOVE FEELING LIKE A CELEBRITY?
Val's tip of the week: Avocado Grill on Datura Street in downtown West Palm Beach is the latest hot spot to attract celebrities. The Piano Man himself, Billy Joel, stopped by there for brunch the other day. When I hit the town for brunch in my resort fashion from Anthony's, I'm ready to spot stars -- and look like one too!
