When I lived up north, I couldn’t wait for the first real spring day when I could put shorts on and feel the sun on my face.
Now that I live in Florida, it’s sunny year-round – but I still crave new clothes and new experiences.
For Super Bowl Sunday, I did something really crazy and tried Maple Bacon Coffee Porter from South Florida’s own Funky Buddha Brewery. People magazine selected that sweet and savory coffee/beer treat as the local beer to try for Super Bowl Sunday, so I just had to do it!
People described the beer as a “sweet breakfast in a glass that could help you forget it’s been 30 years since the Dolphins’ last Super Bowl.”
I’ll tell you what, that glass I poured out on my back patio was as zesty as the first spring day in New York City. I enjoyed mine while relaxing in my favorite pull-on Bermuda shorts from Coconut Row Palm Beach. I get a few new pairs each season from Anthony’s, the women’s fashion expert in South Florida.
Those shorts are made from the most comfy and versatile fabric – a blend of viscose, nylon and spandex. They stretch like gym shorts, but they look tailored and dressy enough for an outing in Palm Beach. Plus, I love the button detail at the knee.
They’re like the fashion equivalent of a zesty new beer! If you haven’t tried a Bermuda short in a while, trust me – a new season brings a new chance to show off just the perfect amount of leg.
And if you want to try Funky Buddha’s maple bacon coffee beer, check out Funky Buddha’s Facebook page. The brewery is taking the tap on the road and visiting several stops in Florida through April.
Anthony’s stores have several spots around Florida, too – with some on the East Coast, some on the West Coast and a couple stores in the Keys.

Val’s patio sip tip of the week: Savor a new flavor
If Maple Bacon Coffee Porter sounds too strange for you, I also like Funky Buddha’s coconut-and-coffee-flavored beer, Last Snow. The brewery just started bottling Last Snow, and you can get it at all major liquor stores, such as ABC Fine Wine & Spirits and Total Wine & More. Trying new flavors and new fashions is part of what makes living in South Florida so fun!
